Foxwoods Casino has proposed a third site for its 5,000 machine slot parlor --- in the historic Strawbridges building just 3 blocks from Independence Hall and just 2 blocks from Society Hill's border. State Representative Mike O'Brien, according to a press release from O'Brien's office, supports a slots parlor in the Strawbridges building at 8th & Market Streets. A slots parlor in Strawbridges would be just 2 blocks from Society Hill's border at 8th and Walnut Streets, as well as the national historic landmarks of Independence Hall (6th and Chestnut) and Independence National Park. According to the same press release, O'Brien has also recently re-introduced a bill which proposes leveraging $4 to $10 million of casino money in order to finance a bond of $400 million of taxpayer debt. The purpose of the bond money is to pay for the infrastructure and mitigation costs to a neighborhood hosting a casino. Let your elected representatives know what you think about a slots parlor so near Society Hill and national historic landmarks.
