Penn's Village to Offer Services June 1, 2008
Source: Penn's Village
Date: 4/20/2008
As many of you are aware, a “Village” is coming to Philadelphia – Penn’s Village. As you may recall, Penn’s Village is a neighborhood non-profit corporation with the goal of providing support to the residents of Old City, Queen Village and Society Hill who wish to stay in their homes as they grow older. We hope to provide support and services that will enable our members to live healthy and meaningful lives in their own homes.
Penn’s Village will offer an introductory menu of services beginning on June 1, 2008 for Penn’s Village Members. These services will include but are not limited to transportation (rides to the doctor, grocery store, or other destinations), in home assistance (occasional meal preparation, pet care, paper work management, minor housekeeping chores, companionship, regular check-in, and organizational assistance), technological and electronic assistance (computer, cable-DVD/VCR assistance), social events and educational programs, home safety assessments, home repair and adaptation, advocacy and expedited access and assistance at both Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals.
Penn’s Village will offer three types of memberships. Charter Memberships will be available $2000 for a household and $1300 for an individual and will include membership fees for the first two years as well as a tax-deductible donation. Regular memberships will be $750 for a household and $500 for an individual for a year. In the future we hope to offer a Membership Plus for those residents who want to join Penn’s Village, but cannot afford the full membership fee.
Our goal is to be a “Volunteer First” organization. We hope to provide the above services using talented and carefully screened volunteers. Services provided by a volunteer would be at no charge. However, when a volunteer is not available, we will make arrangements for services from carefully vetted vendors. Services will be provided by our preferred vendors at specially negotiated rates.
We are fortunate to have established partnerships with Pennsylvania Hospital and Thomas Jefferson Hospital. We are also in the process of establishing relationships with Personal Care and In-home Medical Care companies. Companies were selected only after receiving repeated recommendations. We are also thankful to Landmarks, Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks for allowing us to have office space at the Physick House.
The heart Applied Research on Aging and Health for Jefferson College of Health Professions. of Penn’s Village is a neighbor to neighbor endeavor and we so appreciate your interest and commitment. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Tania Rorke at info@pennsvillage.org, or 215.215.925.7333.
